ALLERGIES

What are allergies?

  • Allergies occur when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance, such as pollen, dust, pet dander, or a food that does not cause a reaction in most people.

  • The immune system produces antibodies. And when there is a particular allergen that the immune system does not recognize, your immune system's reaction can inflame your skin, sinuses, airways or digestive system. The severity of allergies varies from person to person and can range from a minor irritation to a life-threatening emergency.

  • Allergies can affect your airways, sinuses, and nasal passages, skin, and the digestive system.

Western Treatment Methods

  • Allergen Avoidance-this is usually when your doctor helps you to identify and avoid your allergy triggers

  • Medications- depending on the type of allergy, medications can help to reduce your immune system reaction and ease those symptoms. Your doctor may recommend OTC or prescription medications such as pills, nasal sprays, eye drops, etc.

  • Immunotherapy-
